Joy: I spoke to Karen today, and she gave me some advice on our housework situation.
Rex: Yes, I spoke with Tom also. He seems to think ①paid housework has worked wonders for them.

Rex: No, it’s OK. I understand that running this house is a full time job. You deserve to get paid.
Joy: When I really thought about it, it’s not money I want at all. We entered this marriage as equals, to share everything. And I just want to feel that you are contributing to running the house and raising our children. If you help me, then you can understand me and what I go through.

3)scrubbing toilets and taking the kids to school and you barely lift a finger. I want you to be involved in my life, for us to be equal and share the workload.

Joy: And I know you are tired when you get home from work and all you want to do is relax. I understand that.
Rex: Maybe we can work out a way to get me more involved while working around my work schedule.
Joy: Yeah, I’m not asking for a lot, just a few small jobs before you go to work and maybe a few on the weekend.

step up: to increase intensity(逐步增加,加紧,加强)。例如:
