悬空寺,位于山西省浑源县城南4公里恒山金龙峡的半崖峭壁间,始建于北魏太和十五年(公元491年),迄今已有1500多年的历史,是国内现存惟一的佛、道、儒“三教合一”的独特寺庙。整座寺院面对恒山,背倚翠屏,上载危崖,下临深谷,楼阁悬空,结构巧奇。谷底仰视,若断崖飞虹;隔峡遥望,似壁间雕嵌。全寺共有殿阀40间,利用力学原理半插横梁为基,巧借岩石暗托,梁柱上下一体,廊栏左右相连,曲折迂回,虚实桕生。寺内共有铜、铁、石、泥佛像80余尊,其中多为艺术珍品。古人云:“蜃楼疑海上,鸟道没云中”。唐代诗仙李白醉书“壮观”二字。明代大旅行家徐霞客叹其为“天下巨观”。
