M-mode echocardiography is a noninvasive technique that measures linearly the size of the ventricular chamber, the thickness of the ventricular wall, the movement of the ventricular wall, the diameter of large vessels and the valve motion. The American Society of Echocardiography and the European Society of Cardiology echocardiography have suggested the standardization of the site and method for measuring M-mode echocardiography. The ISFC / WHO Task Force agreed on the measurement method of M-mode echocardiography and its application based on the reports of both and drawing on the opinions of international M-mode echocardiography experts. This article details some of the commonly used M-mode echocardiographic measurements, while other less quantitative data are only a brief summary.
