周敦颐及其《易》学在北宋时地位并不高,但后来在宋学系统中却被尊为“道学宗主”。这不能完全归结为朱熹等人的推崇,而是由于周敦颐从根本上抓住了如何在名教中安身立命这一宋学的问题意识,将《四书》所倡儒家伦理建立在《周易》的宇宙哲学基础上,成功地使《周易》的太极阴阳、天地合德、吉凶之几、知性智慧转向《四书》的“圣人之本”、“孔颜乐处”、“善恶之几”、德性修养,重新建构了以内在德性为本的天人合一之道。
