澳大利亚后现代小说是在欧美后现代文学影响之下出现的,历经20世纪70年代的“新写作”、80年代的“新小说”和90年代的“后现代文学小说”等三个阶段,形成了自己鲜明的特色:一、不以“后现代”命名;二、在游戏之中表现一种“后现代崇高”;三、在世纪末的“文化战争”中受到反后现代主义的保守派的拒斥。在接受西方后现代主义文学的过程中,澳大利亚表现出了显著的“滞后”特征,这一点与20世纪上半叶的现代派文学在澳大利亚的命运相似,更与澳大利亚这个后殖民国家的地理、历史以及身份定位密切相关。
Australian postmodern fiction emerged under the influence of European and American postmodern literature.
