以朱熹格物说为坐标,对王阳明、颜元的格物说及其异同进行了探讨。二者的相同之处在于:都是在对朱熹学说实践和反思的基础上提出了格物论;都强调格物之功在于事上磨炼;都认为格物可以实现“于至善”;都批评朱熹格物说有割裂知行、颠倒为学次第、误解格物本意的弊病。不同之处在于:王阳明的格物论是借“龙场悟道”来确立;颜元的格物说是以“居丧悟学”的方式提出。阳明讲格物是从心上说,有很强的道德工夫践履意识,最终目的是为了实现“于至善”的境界;颜元的格物说是从身体力行上说,有很强的社会实践性,最终目的是经世致用。阳明格物说把“格物”和孟子的“良知”结合起来,进而把格物收摄到致良知上来,实现了工夫论与境界论的统一。颜元把格物与周孔礼乐联系起来,建立了“习行礼乐”的思想体系。
