Morgan Stanley, a world-renowned investment bank, has recently readjusted its forecast for the global economy. The agency said in a research note that the September 11 terrorist attacks have delayed the process of U.S. economic recovery and that the global economy may be facing the worst recession after World War II. The report further lowered the forecast for global economic growth. In 2001, the global economy was reduced from 2.1% previously estimated to 1.8%. In 2002, the global economic growth decreased from 3.4% previously estimated to 2.1%. Roach, chief economist at Morgan, pointed out that the terrorist incident brought the U.S. economy into the first recession since World War II, with its impact on Europe and Asia. There are more experts who point out that the September 11 terrorist incident worsened the already sluggish U.S. economy and cast a darker shadow on an unsympathetic world economy. The International Monetary Fund, which is predicting the authority of the global economy, has recently lowered its forecast of the rate of global economic growth. At the same time, however, the agency is particularly optimistic about China’s economy and adjusts its forecast of China’s economic growth from the previous 7% to the current 7.5%. Indeed, given the marked slowdown in global economic growth this year, the sustained growth of China’s economy has taken a spectacular look at the world: in the first half of this year, the Chinese economy maintained its rapid growth of 7.9%
