As the world’s largest non-profit, comprehensive marine science research institute, WHOI is working to deepen its understanding of the oceans through research and education and to apply this understanding to the benefit of humankind. The oceans are the decisive feature of the blue planet we live in and the crux of all life on earth, and it is one of the immense areas untouched by humankind. Scientists and researchers are committed to studying all aspects of the oceans, because not only are people understanding the needs of the planet, but also the future well-being of mankind. “Our goal is to understand the ocean. ” The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) was born.
