作为西方后现代主义小说思潮中的一种新型小说样态,元小说以叙事露迹、拼贴、戏仿等叙事策略突显小说的虚构特性,引导读者重新思考虚构与现实、艺术与生活之间的辩证关系。以元小说理论及其特征观照木心的散文体小说《空房》,可发现其蕴含着表征叙事策略的典型元小说因素,如作者露迹、人物不确定性、周遭环境模糊性及碎片式创作等,故作为现实幻影的《空房》属于元小说。
