星村是崇安小武夷的一个村镇,位于九曲溪畔。九曲溪是武夷茶的发源地,元代的御茶园即设于九曲溪中的四曲。明清之际这里的茶叶生产已有一定的规模,明末有人说:“山中土气宜茶,环九曲之内不下数百家,皆以种茶为业,岁所产数十万斤,水浮陆转,之四方。”①星村作为九曲溪畔最大的一个村镇,很自然地成为商人与茶农贸易的市场,每逢茶季开始,“筐盈于山,担属于路,”茶农将茶叶挑至星村由商人收买。刘(土青)说:“山之第九曲尽处有星村镇,为行家萃聚之所。”②可见,星村有许多商人开设的茶行,专门收购茶叶。
