German Jewish writer Walter McCall’s novel “The Fall of the Stars” is both a German exile and a Chinese novel. McCall incorporates his own exile experience into the three poets of the Chinese poet. This German novel is deeply influenced by the classical Chinese philosophical thought. The core ideas of Confucianism and Tao constitute the poetic connotation of this work. The literary reproduction of the Chinese anti-Japanese war has given this German exile novel a special historical and practical significance. To explore the exile theme in this German novel and the evolution of Chinese knowledge from the point of view of overseas Chinese can provide a new dimension for the study of the interaction between Chinese and German literature.
