<正>"Mountain burning manipulation (烧山火)" and "heavenly cool-inducing technique (透天凉)" were early seen in Great Completion of Acupuncture and Moxibustion: Poem of Golden Needle (《针灸大全·金针赋》) written by Xu Feng in Ming dynasty, which are the basis of reinforcing and reducing manipulation of acupuncture. In such needling manipulations, several conditions are considered, such as the speed of insertion and withdrawal of needle, lifting and thrusting of needle, nine yang number and six yin number, as well as open or close of point after withdrawal; additionally, the needling manipulations are accomplished in three layers, named heaven, earth and human being. The manipulations of these two techniques are complicated and are not easily mastered, therefore, the successful rate of the clinical application is rather low and the many beginners feel difficult in learning. In recent 20 years, on the basis of the original techniques, by constant discussion, a kind of simple manipulation has been developed and the success of the operation becomes quite high. During 10 years, from 1978 to 1997, by the statistical analysis on the clinical data of "mountain burning manipulation (烧山火)" and "heavenly cool-inducing technique (透天凉)",the successful rate in clinic had been over 90%. The following is the introduction on the modified operation, steps and clinical application.
