我出身戏曲世家,祖父唱小戏(俗称“跑台子”)即“木偶”,父亲肖筮易,是陕西易俗社青衣演员,我唯一的儿子也正在西安市艺术学校秦腔班进修艺业。我三十年代就跟父学艺,曾有“八岁红”之誉,群众这样赞励自己,实际上我在秦坛享名时,已有十一岁了。1949年以后,经过1952年的北京首届会演,1953年的4月——9月的朝鲜火线演出,嗣后的多次北京会演,巡演全国十三省市以及拍摄《火炎驹》、《三滴血》影片,使我悟觉到过去的舞台表演是演我自己(或说表现自我)不是角色(人物);是卖弄浅显的程式技巧,谈不上艺术,更何言其深度、美学欣赏啊!现在我逐渐明白无情就无戏,情赖人表达,尤其戏
