The temperature to which the grain stack can be cooled by airflow depends on the temperature and humidity of the air used. The author compares the changes in the grain heap to a wet-bulb thermometer that is subject to different temperatures and humidity. An analysis of a cooling process shows that wet bulb temperature is a good basis for determining the cooling capacity of a cereal ventilated gas. For practical application, this article provides some charts and instructions to help select the fan limit of use; and a detailed description of the typical wet ball controller and the advantages of this method.
