Introduction to the article Self-awareness is one of the most important advanced cognitive functions of mankind. Unlike humans and certain apes, rhesus monkeys do not instinctively recognize the image in the mirror as they are in the mirror. This study pioneered a new visual sensory coupling training program: a monkey sitting on a monkey chair facing the mirror, the use of high-power laser pen irradiation monkey face. The laser shines a spot of light on the monkey’s face with a slight irritating sensation, directing the monkey to catch the light spot on his face. Thus, monkeys can see themselves in front of the mirror light spots on his face. After 2 to 5 weeks of training, the monkey understands the correlation between the spot in the mirror and the spot on his face.
