我国食菊历史悠久,《神农本草经》载:菊花久服,利血气、轻身、耐老、延年。菊花甘苦微寒,有散风清热、清肝明目和解毒消炎等作用。对口干、火旺、目涩,或由风、寒、湿引起的肢体疼痛、麻木的疾病均有一定的疗效。长期食用能调节心肌功能、降低胆固醇,对眼睛劳损、头痛、高血压等也有一定疗效。老年人多吃些菊花有助于养生,菊花的吃法很多,常见的有:菊花茶:枸杞子和菊花泡茶喝,或加适量蜂蜜泡菊花茶可明目清肝,保护眼睛。
