这些年,咱们北京城门楼子少了,立交桥多了;四合院少了,商场洋房多了。据《燕京岁时记》里记载:“什刹海在地安门迤西,荷花最盛,六月间仕女云集。凡花开时,绿柳丝垂,红衣腻粉,花光人面,掩映迷离。真不知人之为人,花之为花矣。”什刹海承载着历史的华丽。位于西城区西北部。旧称积水潭,亦称海子。占地146.7万平方米,其中水域约34万平方米,含西海、后海和前海3个湖泊,被称作后三海,与前三海(北海、中海、后海)共同组成北京内城的六海水系。古时曾是永定河故道,后为高粱河一段比较宽阔的河身。现水源引自密云水库。景区内有丰富的人文旅游资源,是北京历史文化及古代风貌的代表性区域。
