云台山硫铁矿矿床位于宁芜火山岩盆地北段,矿体主要产于中三叠统黄马青组碳酸盐岩、钙质泥岩及粉砂岩中,少部分矿体产于上侏罗统龙王山组火山岩系。其产状与地层产状一致,明显受层位的控制。根据硫同位素及地层中硫的含量分析,其成因类型应属以层控为主体,并伴有热液成因的复合矿床。黄马青组提供了主要的硫源,火山活动对成矿也起到重要的作用
