长沙市长郡中学创建于1904年,是湖南省首批示范性普通高级中学。长郡中学以“朴实沉毅”为校训,陶铸群英,为社会共输送了八万多名合格毕业生,不仅造就了徐特立、李维汉、陈子展、周世钊等一代名师,还孕育了李立三、罗章龙、任弼时、李富春、肖劲光、陈赓、曾三等老一辈无产阶级革命家,从这里走出了张孝骞、沈其震等十三位院士和美学家蔡仪、音乐家吕骥及青年歌唱家张也、陈小朵等一大批学者名家。1995年以来,学校教育教学各项评价指标连年领跑湖南,学科奥赛、科技创新、艺体竞赛成绩均处于全国领先水平,在国际、国内有着广泛的影响力。
