英汉虽分属不同的语系,是两种不同的语言,但对于同一主题:学习,两者都有相关的文章进行论述,本文选取了荀子的《劝学篇》和弗朗西斯?培根(Francis Bacon)的《论读书》(Of Studies)为例,在韩礼德(Halliday)和哈桑(Hasan)的词汇衔接理论指导下,首先分别分析两篇文章中的词汇衔接及其作用,得出两种语言在使用词汇衔接时原词复现使用最多,都运用了多种衔接手段,但英语的词汇衔接比汉语的形式丰富,衔接更长的语义片段的结论。最后,提出一些有助于英语学习和写作的建议。
