Danazol is now widely used to treat certain gynecological diseases (such as endometriosis) and is used as a contraceptive. However, its mechanism of action has not yet been clarified. This experiment by observing the effect of danazol on pituitary gonadotropin levels in order to prove whether the drug has anti-gonadotropin activity. The authors experimented with 5 adult female rhesus monkeys and bilateral ovariectomies were performed 18 months prior to the start of the experiment. Three experimental animals were given 400 mg of danazol daily by gavage, and two control monkeys were given the same amount of lactose for consecutive administration for 19 days.
