工业以太网近年来发展十分迅速,已成为工业自动化领域中最热门的话题,但其中有些专门术语往往会引起混淆,例如桥路(bridge)和切换器(switch),一个多端口桥路有可能称为切换器。一个层-3切换器和路由器有相同的功能,但路由器由软件构成,而层-3切换器则是硬件结构。为此对工业以太网的一些主要术语诠释如下:中继器(repeater)当2个电缆段在物理层(ISO/OSI模型,国际标准化组织/开放系统互连)进行连接时称之为一个中继器。正如其名称所指出,这个器件接收、放大和发送信号。有故障的信号仍能向前发送到邻近的段。基本上,中继器的功能是刷新信号,并通过此功能扩展网络。
