Studies have shown that the anti-tumor effects of interferon are mainly regulated by the growth inhibition of tumor cells rather than their immunomodulatory effects. The use of alpha-interferon (IFN-alpha) in the treatment of hairy cell leukemia, the effective rate of up to 70% -90%, after several months of treatment, the patient’s peripheral blood cell count is normal, bone marrow image improved. The efficacy of IFN-α in the treatment of multiple myeloma is not as good as conventional chemotherapy. A group of studies in Italy showed that IFN-α as an adjunct to chemotherapy can significantly prolong the time of action of chemotherapeutic agents and improve survival. IFN-α treatment of solid tumors, such as malignant endocrine pancreatic tumors, AIDS-related Kaposi’s sarcoma and a small number of renal cell tumors and melanoma patients have a certain effect. Topical application of IFN-α is also effective for the treatment of bladder, ovarian tumors and melanoma.
