对于神经系统肿瘤之一的垂体腺瘤的冶疗，传统的微创神经外科经蝶窦入路手术存在一定的局限性，无法切除向海绵窦，斜坡和蝶骨平台等部位侵袭的肿瘤，而且海绵窦一直被视为经蝶窦入路手术的禁区。北京协和医院神经外科在国内率先开展改良和扩大经蝶窦入路切除向海绵窦．斜坡和蝶骨平台侵袭性生长的巨大垂体腺瘤64例，成为国内外最先采用微创显微神经外科经蝶窦入路切除向海绵窦等部位侵袭肿瘤的单位。
