学界一直对薛福成在中英《续议滇缅界.商务条款》中对中缅北段界的划分持否定态度,通过对解密材料、薛氏奏疏、日记仔细的研读,并把中缅北段界的划分置于整个薛氏的交涉之中可以看出,作为洋务派的杰出代表,薛福成在谈判中全力维界,对中缅北段界的划分言纬不言经,正是其用心良苦的结果,应当给予客观地评价。
The academic community has always held a negative attitude toward the division of northern China and Burma in Sino-British negotiations on the terms of Commerce between China and Britain. Through careful study of the materials used for declassification, It is clear from the representations of the entire Xue industry that the boundary of the sector is fully represented by Xue. As the outstanding representative of the Westernization School, Xue Fucheng fully exerts its utmost in the negotiations and does not make any comment on the division of the northern sector of the Central and Eastern Burma. Well-intentioned results should be given objective evaluation.
