Zhu Xi is a new development of Confucianism. Known as Neo-Confucianism by the West, it is a thought-theoretic theory with world influence. It has long been abroad and translated into different languages to spread all over the world. However, its English translation is lagging behind. The first English monthly “Chinese Repository” founded by American missionaries in Guangzhou, China in the 19th century was the first position to spread Zhu Xi to the West. The article examines and analyzes the general situation of English translation, the identity and purpose of the translator, the strategies and problems of translation, and so on, in order to explore the early translation and dissemination of Zhu Xi in the English-speaking world.
