A characterization of cultural modernity is a fusion of Chinese and Western cultures. This is the consensus of the Chinese intellectual community since modern times. Over the past hundred years, the trend of thought has changed and the academic circles have contended. Both are exploring the possibility of cultural compatibility or integration from the perspective of dialogue, choice and criticism of Chinese and Western cultures. Despite different views and different positions, they all seek the transformation of modernity in the framework of “conflict and integration.” At the end of the last century, intellectual circles again listed “the modernization of culture” as the main proposition of the transformation of modernity. The initiation of this discussion has its roots in the brewing of the political system reform. The subject matter concerns the separation of knowledge and politics and the separation of the ideological system and the commonality of cultural autonomy and spirit.
