Uterus and fallopian tubes of various tissues can selectively synthesize a variety of prostaglandin compounds. The properties of typical PGS, PGF_ (2α) and PGE_2 activation of smooth muscle have been well documented in the literature, but only a few reports on the corresponding effects of many short acting PG compounds in these tissues have been reported. Recently, it has been reported that a stable PGH2 analogue (U-46619) has a strong excitatory effect on human uterus in vitro, but the detailed quantitative and qualitative information on these compounds is still lacking. The authors studied the effects of three different PGs on three distinct smooth muscle layers of human uninucleated uterine muscle and uterus tubal junction (UTJ) and the effect of PGI2 on the uterus. METHODS: Muscle specimens were obtained from 26 women of childbearing age who underwent hysterectomy or sterilization. Cut out three layers of UTJ muscle samples,
