About Simpeds Early Research Simpeds was designed by the British Mining Safety Research Center (SMRE) specifically to measure the amount of individual dust. In 1967 Higgins and Durr reported the cyclone sampler developed by the British Society for Cast Iron Research, while Hamilton et al. Pointed out that it has a particle size selectivity (1967) of approximately the same respirable dust as Type 113A. The Simpeds sampling head is the lighter type of this cyclone sampler and can be worn on the worker’s headlamp after modification. Harris and Maguire in 1968 identified the relationship between Simpeds and type 113A in pollinated alleyways, but collected about 10% more dust. Subsequent improvements made Simpeds more suitable for mass production (Maguire et al.
