新中国成立后,毛泽东很重视戏曲的政治和社会功能,希望通过传统艺术形式反映现代生活,提倡演现代戏。戏曲界积极响应毛泽东的号召,掀起上演现代戏的高潮。江青开始插手现代戏,以全国京剧现代戏观摩大会上涌现出的大批优秀剧目为基础,用“左”的文艺理论进行加工、删改,并逐渐得到官方认可,正式定名为“革命样板戏”。于是,“样板戏”就进入了人们的视野。

Thus, “model opera ” entered the people’s field of vision.
