庇护请求继续上升
UNHCR reported that the number of people seeking asylum in industrialized countries increased in 2012. Most asylum applications from seekers come from Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia and Syria.
“Wars are driving more and more people to seek asylum,” said High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres.
479,300 claims were registered across the 44 countries, according to the 'Asylum Trends 2012 report'. Afghanistan again is the top country of origin among asylum seekers.
Europe, as the region, received the most applications in 2012 with 355,500 claims. The single largest recipient of asylum requests was the United States with 83,400 claims, nearly a quarter of the applicants were from China, followed by Mexico and El Salvador.
