Peteborough, UK - What happens inside the engine cylinder when it is operating? Researchers at Perkins Engines have found that a laser Doppler anemometer can accurately measure a cylinder or its Movement of air, gas and fuel droplets within the pipe. They measure the motion of various fluids with a probe measuring approximately 0.01 mm3; scanning the optical system to give a complete picture of the characteristics of the cylinder. The system’s miniature computer is capable of measuring any part of the engine’s circulatory system without stopping, always measuring a crank angle of ten arc minutes. The British Atomic Energy Research Center has the wind speed and wind direction measuring system as the agency’s internal combustion engine research program
