Main Generation System The Boeing 777 aircraft’s power generation system was developed by Saatchi and has two separate systems, a main system and a backup system (see Figure 1). Both systems have a generator installed on each of the aircraft’s two engines. The main system also has a third generator mounted on the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). In addition, the aircraft is also equipped with an emergency generator driven by a ram air turbine. Under normal conditions, the main power system is powered by the aircraft during flight. The main system generator is a 3-phase 400 Hz constant speed alternator with a phase voltage of 115 volts. Each of its generators is combined with a constant speed drive to form a combined drive generator (IDG). On a constant speed APU, only the generator section is installed.
