Goethe’s Faust is a masterpiece of the contradiction and unity of “classical” and “modernity,” and “Faust” is not only the classical prototype of European intellectuals, but also becomes philosophically “Modernity ” synonymous. Whether literary or film adaptation, the image of “Faust” embodies the development, inheritance and the evolution of “modernity” in different stages of history. Sokolov, the spiritual successor of the Russian philosophical film, also used the cinematic means to seek a philosophical approach to the spiritual predicament of the European intellectuals. It is of great significance for the adaptation of Faust.
