In July 1981, Unit 1 of the Gezhouba Project’s Erjiang Power Plant was connected to the grid for power generation and began to play an effective role. When strong currents flow through the tall iron towers and power lines to the factories and mines thousands of miles away, the islands at the exit of the Xiling Gorge that have accumulated over the centuries have become the islands of the Jiangxinsha Chau. The barrage dam of the “reinforced concrete giant” made the name “Gezhouba” not found on the map and the names of people who have not heard of it outside the territory were well known. To talk about the ins and outs of the Qinggezhou dam project, we must start with the Three Gorges project.
