中共中央总书记、国家主席江泽民1月21日在人民大会堂会见中国法学会第四次会员代表大会的代表时指出,依法治国,是社会文明和社会进步的重要标志,也是国家长治久安的重要保障。党的十一届三中全会以来,邓小平同志一贯倡导要发展社会主义民主,加强社会主义法制,这是我们必须长期坚持的基本方针。没有社会主义民主与法制,就没有社会主义现代化。全党同志特别是各级领导干部要始终不渝地推进社会主义民主与法制建设,努力提高领导水平和执政水平。
