历年高考试题有很多直接由教材中的原句改编,利用原句中的某些常见词汇中不常见的词义来进行设空考查。“熟词生义”并不是某个词凭空产生了“新”的词义,而是考题所涉及单词的那个“新”词义常常是考生记忆的“盲点”。现将教材中出现此类用法的课文原句进行举例说明,以下“①”表示平时我们熟悉的词义,“②”表示“新”的词义。
1. About four metres long, the room served as a small reception hall for important visitors. (必修2 Unit1 P2)这个屋子大约有四米长,用作一个招待重要访客的小接待厅。
serve ①“为……服务;提供(食物或饮料)”
②“适合作……用;有助于实现”
