Fifty patients with chronic nephritis weretreated with TH,which was shown to reduceurinary protein.The total effective rate was46%.A third of the patients resistant to steroidor immunosuppressive agents responded well toTH.The reduction of urinary protein by THis not due to decrease of GFR but probably dueto decrease of permeability of GBM.Studieswith experimental nephritis revealed that THimproved the glomerular lesions.It is suggestedthat the remission of renal damage induced byTH is probably due to its anti-inflammatory andimmunosuppressive actions.
