唐山市马车运输站承担着市内短途运输物资总量的80%左右,有二千二百多名职工,一千五百辆马车。随着工农业生产的不断发展跃进,运输任务越来越大,1959年下半年每月物资运量超过实有运力的一倍以上。运输站党总支,认真研究了这一新的形势坚持了政治挂帅,领导群众千方百计挖掘潜力,大闹技术革新和技术革命,提出了马车带挂车的课题。发动群众自力更生,展开了人人献计策、献材料,献技术;同时大搞内外协作,解决了材料和技术力量不足的困难;批判了某些单纯依靠上级的消极等待思想。书记亲自动手,与群众一起,研究试制,终于用人力排子车小轮胎成功地制成四轮车型的马拉列车。马拉列车,具有载重量大、效率高、省材料、成本低、制作简单体轻灵便等许多优点:
