The “Statistics Law” we mentioned in “Statistics” was promulgated on January 1, 1984. In order to meet the requirements for statistics in the new situation of China’s reform and opening up and the development of a socialist market economy, the “Statistical Law of the People’s Republic of China” was amended and re-announced on 19th May 1996 by the Eighth NPC Standing Committee on May 15, 1996 put into action. This is a major move and another milestone of our country in building the statistical legal system and is of great significance to the development of our country’s statistical work.
