De Man said “reading” is the so-called “interpretation.” He believes that any reading is misreading, because reading requires language, and language is always a rhetoric, that is, so there can be no single interpretation, but a variety of reading. As a result, De Mann presents his most representative point of view, that any insight gained from reading is also a blind spot, because it always starts from a certain presupposition and thus inevitably neglects other points of view. Demanconversion of Deman’s version first opened up new criticism space in the United States, and in a certain sense laid the foundation for the United States to combine the literary criticism and cultural criticism in the 1990s.
