Pingliang, Gansu Province, is one of the key areas for soil erosion in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. Most of the farmland is slope-trapped land. Among the 615.18 million mu of arable land in the region, 557.76 million mu of mountainous plateau accounts for 90%. Serious soil erosion has resulted in barren land, drought and water shortage, low output and poor people’s livelihood. Therefore, to build a horizontal terraced field and change “Three Kau fields” into “three inscribed fields” has become a fundamental measure to change production conditions, resist natural disasters and solve the problem of food and clothing for the masses and has been persevered for a long time. By the end of 1988, 338.18 acres of fields, according to the calculation of the agricultural population, the average occupancy of 2.02 acres of ladder field. In agricultural development, landings have become important farmland engineering measures.
