To determine the safety and efficacy of cryotherapy in the esophagus, the authors conducted the following animal studies. Twelve cats were anesthetized and surgically treated with nitric oxide as a cryogen and a special cryogenic probe was inserted into the esophagus under direct laryngoscopy.
