Japan’s JGC and Mitsubishi Chemical said recently that they have started to build a test plant with a total investment of 29.9 million U.S. dollars for the production of propylene from methanol / dimethyl ether and by-product olefins. The test facility was built at a Mitsubishi Chemical plant in Mizushima, Okayama Prefecture, Japan and is expected to be completed by the end of July 2010. The pilot plant will produce propylene from methanol / dimethyl ether derived from liquefied natural gas or coke oven gas and from olefins from naphtha cracking units or fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) units.
