瑜伽哲学相信,“我们就是我们所吃的”,这句话意味着我们的健康、情绪乃至智慧都与我们吃的有关系。这个观点乍听很玄,但仔细深究确有其理,并且与现代医学的观点不谋而合。如果一个人长期摄取高脂肪、高糖、高热量的食物,这个人可能会得“三高”:高脂肪、高血糖、高体重;如果吃了太过刺激的食物,肠胃会受到伤害;如果吃了变质的食品,血液会被污染、细胞会受到损害。这是现代医学告诉我们的常识,而这一常识与瑜伽先哲们的观点惊人地一致。瑜伽提倡人们过健康、纯净的生活,饮食则是人生活方式中非常重要的一部分。瑜伽理论认为,人的生活习惯会直接改变人的饮食习惯,而饮食习惯的改变也会影响人的生活方式,最终影响人的肉体和精神状态。人们需要一个健康的身体,健康的心态,瑜伽的最终目的正是要使我们的身体和灵魂一样都很健康,让人们健康、快乐地活着。

People need a healthy body and a healthy attitude. The ultimate goal of yoga is to make our body and soul as healthy as possible and to make people live healthily and happily.
