帖与碑,历来是书法的两大流派。清代中叶以降,碑学蔚兴,大家辈出,包世臣、康有为尊碑抑帖,把碑学推向极致。回顾几百年的北碑书家实绩,确于二王一脉之外,给书法艺术开辟了一个新天地,二水争流,双峰并秀,风格各异,适足相成,近世书家吸取两派之长的日渐其多。北碑,主要指北魏的法书,虽偶见有近于行书的,大量的是楷书;虽偶见少数墨迹,大量的是碑铭石刻;虽具统一的格调,却又多式多样。如龙门之端方厚重,郑文公之丰实雅健,张猛龙之清纯俊逸,张黑女之秀劲蕴籍,得其一体可以受用无穷。
