Objective To investigate the expression of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) in gastric cancer and its adjacent tissues and its relationship with biological behaviors such as tumor cell differentiation, invasion, lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis. Methods Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression of FAK protein in 78 cases of gastric cancer and para-cancerous tissues. Results The expression of FAK in cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in paracancerous tissues. The expression of FAK in well-differentiated and moderately differentiated tissues was higher than that in poorly differentiated cancer tissues. Tissues with lymph node metastasis were more expressed than those without metastasis. The deeper the degree of infiltration, the higher the expression. Tissues with distant metastases expressed more than those without metastases. Conclusion FAK may be a transformation-related enzyme and an evolved enzyme. FAK expression can be used as tumor occurrence and growth of a more valuable pathological indicators.
