The once-sensational APT train has a slim future. The existing three-row APT train failed to meet the formal operation between London and Glasgow because of unreliability. Now, British Rail has given up its efforts in this area. Although it may be temporarily used for passenger transport in the future, these three prototype trains will in the future be merely test vehicles for “project development” instead of trains operated formally. It has been decided that, at any time in the future, APT trains will no longer use the hydraulic brake, instead of the disc brake instead. More importantly, due to the poor seating comfort of articulated prototype trains, it is very difficult to get a faulty vehicle out of a train,
