Murdoch’s view of language is closely related to her unique “noble” novel theory. Kant’s lofty theory can be translated into art theory when the object of observation is changed from a natural scene to a human scene. Awareness of the real “sublime” character of the twentieth century influenced her trust in language. Language is abstract and ambiguous, incapable of expressing the coupling disorder and the uniqueness of the outside world. Language is limited, and we are prepared to accept its limitations as we work to expand the boundaries of the language. At the ideological and linguistic borders, when “seeing” something that can not be said, Murdoch is not silent but adopts a special narrative strategy. Although there is a crisis of referential capacity in language, it still makes sense. It can accomplish fundamental tasks by being true to the truth, giving meaning to the reality that can not be clearly articulated.
