在远古时代,人类认识世界的方式之一是神话。神话圈即主观存在的神话世界,一直伴随着人类社会。在许多神话体系中,雷神是最重要的自然神之一。中国雷神形象的演变过程很复杂。对《太平广记》的雷公形象的具体分析表明,中国神话体系也不是孤立的,不但具有每一个神话体系都具有的成分及自身独一无二的特色,而且与亚洲和欧洲各种文化里面的神话体系都有长久的交流。有些外来的神话母题和形象进入了中国文化的神话圈,同样,有些中国的神话母题和形象也影响到了其他文化及其神话圈扇区。
